For our first MN Tech Diversity event of 2017, we will host a panel discussion about transgender experiences in the workplace.

According to a 2011 survey of transgender individuals (the largest to date), 78% of the respondents reported experiencing at least one form of workplace harassment due to their gender identity. There are still 31 states in which transgender employees can be fired for their gender identity. Moreover, even when equality and protective laws are in place, that doesn’t always mean the lived experience of trans people is fair.

Our conversations will touch on:

  • Personal experiences
  • Legal implications
  • Creating a supportive work environment
  • Motivating staff to be supportive
  • Sharing your story at work

Many workplaces don’t have resources for trans employees or allies who want to create an inclusive space. We hope that this will begin to fix that.
